Retinopathy in premature infants (ROP)

Dr. Valery Vinzent Wittwer

Very premature or very light newborns can have serious eye development problems.
Targeted screening enables those affected to be treated at an early stage and thus prevent impending blindness.

During the screening or preventive examination of newborns, only a small microscope is used to look deep into the eyes, which, in addition to blinds, does not represent any particular inconvenience for the children.

If there are signs of retinopathy in premature babies (ROP), a further detailed investigation follows. In the vast majority of cases, no treatment is necessary to preserve the children's vision. If treatment using laser or intraocular surgery is necessary, parents will be informed in detail in advance.
